Spring is in the air, and the 2025 construction season for the Bay & Beyond project is gearing up to start again.

Crews will be back into Stage 1 of the project between Steamship Bay Road and Greavette Street early this spring to finish up some remaining work that was deferred last year and touch up any areas following the winter season and spring thaw.

Although work will be taking place again throughout last year’s construction area of Stage 1, crews will be able to maintain traffic through this section of Bay Street (Muskoka Road 169). Travellers can, however, expect single-lane closures and flagging operations at times to accommodate this spring work. Please follow posted signage and directions to safely navigate such operations when they are in place.

Following the upcoming completion of work in Stage 1, crews will be transitioning into Stage 2 of the project. This work is anticipated to start in early June and will see construction occurring on Bay Street between Greavette Street and Muskoka Road South. Throughout April, our Contractor, Trisan Construction and OZA Inspections Ltd., will be reaching out to residents and businesses to arrange for a pre-construction condition survey of all properties located adjacent to the Stage 2 construction area. There is no cost to property owners to have this survey completed, and although it’s not mandatory, the project team recommends that this limited-time offer be taken advantage of.

Stay tuned to the project’s website for upcoming details on the start of Stage 2.

Bay and Beyond Background

Ever wonder where your toilet water goes or how clean drinking water gets to your tap? The Bay and Beyond infrastructure project is a three-year partnership with the District of Muskoka and the Town of Gravenhurst, designed to upgrade the critical underground systems that have been in place since 1944. This project will ensure the reliable delivery of clean drinking water and efficient wastewater management, services we often don't think about.

Here's a glimpse at more improvements as part of the Bay and Beyond project:

  • Creating more opportunities for active transportation
  • New multi-use trail from North Muldrew Lake Road to the Wharf Sports Field
  • New, improved parking area at the Wharf Sports Field
  • Upgrades to intersections and traffic signals, including enhancements to accessibility
  • New pedestrian crosswalk downtown at Sharpe Street and Muskoka Road South
  • New street lights from Cherokee Lane to Greavette Street
  • New, smooth driving surfaces and improved drainage
  • Replacement of sidewalks and curbs
  • and replacement of the 80 year-old water pipes, watermains, storm and sanitary sewers underground - to keep Gravenhurst connected.
