Exciting Announcement: Bay Street will fully reopen at the end of November, in advance of the busy festive season. Stage 1 is almost done, crews are wrapping up the Bay and Beyond project for the winter.

Stage 1 – Phase 1 and 2: Improvements Made

Our crews have been making incredible progress on the Bay and Beyond project! Here’s a quick snapshot of the work completed in 2024:

  • 🚧 James Street Upgrades: We applied a fresh surface to James St., complete with new paint markings, pedestrian crosswalk and adjusted stop bars at the James St./Muskoka Rd. intersection (near Shoppers Drug Mart).
  • πŸ’§ New Underground Pipes: Beneath Bay St., we replaced water, wastewater, and stormwater pipes that had been in place since the 1940s — talk about an upgrade!
  • 🏠 Reliable, Clean, Safe Water: Properties are now connected to a new water and sanitary main, ensuring more reliable service for years to come.
  • πŸ‘Ÿ Wharf Enhancements: New multi-use trail, sidewalks, curbs, and temporary streetlights have been installed along Bay St to enhance safety and visibility.
  • πŸš™ Smoother Drive: The first base layer of asphalt has been applied to the Stage 1 area. The Road includes protective ramping for a smooth transition and to safeguard curbs during winter plowing. The second and final asphalt layer is coming in 2025, as well as enhancements and upgrades to the streetlights at the east-end of the project.
