What is a Municipal Services Corporation (MSC)?

A Municipal Services Corporation (MSC) is created by a municipality to manage specific services or assets.

For the Muskoka Airport, an MSC would allow the airport to operate more independently, with the flexibility to make business decisions more quickly, similar to how private companies operate.

Airports operate in competitive environments, that’s why we need to align ourselves for success. As Muskoka continues to grow - we need to ensure the airport remains a strong economic driver for our communities.

Why are we exploring an MSC for Muskoka Airport?

Airports operate in competitive environments, and we need to align ourselves for success.

As Muskoka continues to grow - we need to ensure the airport remains a strong economic driver for our communities.

Under the proposed MSC model, the Muskoka Airport lands would remain owned by the District, but have the ability to operate more like a business. An MSC is anticipated to enable faster, more streamlined decision-making, offer enhanced ability to attract investment and development, reduce reliance on public tax dollars and position the airport for future growth and keep it competitive.
