Family Update – Pines Incident

CLOSED: This discussion has concluded.

Safeguarding Our Residents is Our Top Priority

An incident of resident abuse was reported on December 6, 2022, and was immediately investigated. We took all the necessary steps including notifying family members and the Ministry of Long-Term Care in response to the incident and the employment of the staff involved was terminated.

On Monday, January 9, 2023, Ministry Inspectors arrived at the Pines, to investigate this incident independently, in accordance with procedure. All Ministry investigations and findings are publicly reported on the Ministry of Long-Term Care website.

Next week, Commissioner Barrette will be presenting a report to the Health Services Committee regarding this incident. Over the course of Friday, January 13, 2023, the report will be available on the Muskoka Document Centre.

Resident Safety and Wellbeing is Everyone’s Responsibility

We are taking any and all actions to ensure our residents feel at Home. This also means, there are times when staff may be in a position where they need to report incidents. It takes bravery and courage it takes to do the right thing.

Moving Forward

Quality care for our residents at the Pines is our priority. An action plan is being rolled out to ensure policies, procedures, and prevention measures are in place, including educational strategies. We are working with the Ministry, and all incidents, investigations, and findings are posted publicly.
