Week 1 – Overview & Responsive Behaviours
A presentation that provides general knowledge and awareness of a variety of related dementias, communication tips as well as the services and programs offered at your local Alzheimer Society.
A presentation that provides knowledge about brain changes related to Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Also including knowledge on responsive behaviours, possible triggers and strategies.
Week 2 – Brain & Meaningful Activities/Visits
A presentation that provides knowledge about brain changes related to Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
This education session goes over meaningful activities/visits and how care partners/family members/friends can make visits more successful. It also touches on how people living with dementia feel a sense of purpose in their days, when engaging in various activities.
Week 3 – Care Partner Appreciation Night
This session explores the care partner and the stressors they may face while caring for someone living with dementia. It will also discuss how care partners can take care of themselves and ensure they aren’t experiencing a burnout.
Week 4 – Ambiguous Loss & Grief
The issue of loss and grief is one of the most significant underlying issues that care partners experience when supporting people living with dementia. This workshop is designed to help care partners identify and work through the losses and grieving that occurs in different ways at all stages in the dementia caregiving journey.
