Public Health has placed the Birch home area in enhanced surveillance for respiratory symptoms such as cough, runny nose, nasal congestion, hoarse voice, and/or sore throat. We have two (2) resident cases at this time. We will continue to monitor and update with any further information. Family members of those affected have been notified.

The following infection control measures are to be implemented:

• Surgical Masks to be worn in the Birch Home Area
• Ensure the Public Health 4 moments of Hand Hygiene are followed
• Resident's Hand Hygiene before all meals and regularly throughout the day
• Ensure Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used properly- including donning before entering and removing before exiting the isolated resident’s room
• Residents are to remain in the affected home area at this time to reduce the risk of spread
• *If residents insist on leaving the home area, please assist them with masking or a visor and encourage outdoor visiting.
• Twice daily respiratory symptom screening in Birch Home Area
• Immediate isolation of any residents with new symptom onset
• Cohorting of staff, when possible.
• Cohorting of residents and only small group activities in the home area for unaffected residents. Isolated residents to receive one-to-one activities.
• Twice daily high-touch surface cleaning- changing disinfecting product to 1-minute contact time
• Increased hand hygiene and PPE audits in the home area with coaching
• No impact on visiting at this time

The Maple Home Area is experiencing a respiratory outbreak in collaboration with Public Health. We have had no new cases added today. Two (2) of the Maple residents have tested positive for COVID-19; with one (1) of the cases being resolved. We currently have six (6) active residents isolated with symptoms such as cough, runny nose, nasal congestion, and/or hoarse voice.

We remain on enhanced surveillance in the Oak Home Area with two (2) residents isolated with respiratory symptoms. No new cases were reported today.

Family members of those residents affected have been notified.

Building a Culture of Safety Through Resident and Family Engagement

The Ministry of Long-Term Care does not endorse or sponsor specific learning and education activities. All long-term care sector associations play important roles in contributing to the goals of quality of life and quality of care in Ontario’s long-term care homes.

The District of Muskoka and the Long Term Care homes completed a Request for Proposal (RFP) related to physiotherapy services for the Pines and Fairvern LTC Homes. After the evaluation was complete, it was noted that the successful bidder was Achieva Health. Achieva is one of the largest providers of rehabilitation services in Ontario, with over 1, 000 clinical and support staff providing comprehensive services to Community Clinics, Long Term Care, Retirement Homes, and in individuals' homes. we would like to thank Lifemark Physiotherapy for their time with us. We will be working with Achieva to transition everything over the coming weeks.
