The Pines Resident & Family Portal

In collaboration with Public Health, the Maple Home Area remains in a Respiratory Outbreak at this time. We have added one resident case in the last 24 hours with four (4) active residents with symptoms such as cough, runny nose, nasal congestion, and/or hoarse voice. Family members of those residents affected have been notified.

The following infection control measures are to be implemented:

• Surgical Masks to be worn in the Maple Home Area
• Ensure the Public Health 4 moments of Hand Hygiene are followed
• Resident's Hand Hygiene before all meals and regularly throughout the day
• Ensure Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used properly- including donning before entering and removing before exiting the isolated resident’s room
• Residents are to remain in the affected home area at this time to reduce the risk of spread
• *If residents insist on leaving the home area, please assist them with masking or a visor and encourage outdoor visiting.
• Twice daily respiratory symptom screening in Maple Home Area
• Immediate isolation of any residents with new symptom onset
• Cohorting of staff, when possible.
• Cohorting of residents and only small group activities in the home area for unaffected residents. Isolated residents to receive one-to-one activities.
• Twice daily high-touch surface cleaning- changing disinfecting product to 1-minute contact time
• Increased hand hygiene and PPE audits in the home area with coaching
• Limit of two (2) essential caregivers at a time in Maple Home Area only
• No General Visitors to Maple Home Area

Please ensure that you are following the IPAC practices listed above as they are in place to protect residents, staff, essential caregivers, and visitors.

Notice to Tenants: 102 Pine Street, Bracebridge and The Pines Staff

RE: Access Modifications to Rear Parking Lot and Fire Route

Between: Monday, October 7 to Wednesday, October 9, 2024, starting at 7am

Between Monday, October 7^th to Wednesday, October 9, 2024, and commencing at 7am the sanitary site servicing will be completed to 100 Pine Street which will result in modifications to access to the rear parking areas and use of the fire route. The contractor has consulted the local Fire Dept on these temporary access modifications to the fire route for approval. Refer to the attached traffic control drawing for work areas, accesses and schedule below:

Monday, October 7- Access lanes and sidewalk to rear parking lot will be closed for use. Staff and residents to access parking via The Pines rear access road (Green areas). Staff parking at The Pines will be reduced by one or two spaces to accommodate excavation equipment in use in the adjoining work area.

Tuesday, October 8- Access lanes to rear parking lot will be reduced to one lane. Sidewalk will be closed for safety precautions. Fire route along the rear of The Pines will be blocked off on this date. Staff parking at The Pines will be reduced by one or two spaces to accommodate excavation equipment in use in the work area.

Wednesday, October 9- Both access lanes to the rear parking lot will be restored to two lane traffic. Fire route at rear of The Pines will be blocked off on this date. If all connections go as planned, access to rear parking and fire route will be restored to normal operations at end of day, unless there are any unforeseen conditions beyond our control which may overlap into Thursday.

Temporary barricades and traffic control signage/equipment will be in place during this work to provide direction. It is recommended to keep your windows closed on these dates to reduce noise and/or dust into living units. It is suggested that vehicles avoid the rear parking areas due to construction on these dates and suggests using parking on Pine Street as an alternative if possible.

All residents and visitors are requested to use the main entrance to access and exit McVittie Place and municipal sidewalks during this time to further minimize risk and avoid the construction area. For your safety, please obey all posted signage during construction. Residents are reminded not to go beyond any marked or fenced work areas as a safety precaution at any time. Building a Culture of Safety Through Resident and Family Engagement

Join members of the OARC team as we welcome representatives from the Institute for Safe Medication Practices Canada (ISMP Canada) to discuss the important role that residents can play in supporting medication safety in their long-term care homes. Our guests will share related resources and provide examples of how residents and families are being engaged in a provincial medication safety initiative.

The Ministry of Long-Term Care does not endorse or sponsor specific learning and education activities. All long-term care sector associations play important roles in contributing to the goals of quality of life and quality of care in Ontario’s long-term care homes.

If you are interested in having a meal with your loved one. Tickets can be purchased at the front office the day before. Meals are five (5) dollars for breakfast and lunch and ten (10) dollars for dinner. You can also call the home if you would like to reserve your meal with your loved one.
