June 25, 2023- Cedar Outbreak Update

We have received the pathogen at this time and it is Rhinovirus. Resident symptoms are mild and resolving fairly quickly at this time. Family members of those affected residents are aware. No General Visitors at this time to Cedar Home Area; essential caregiver at a maximum of two (2) at a time.
We will send updates regularly as we work through this most recent outbreak.
Measures at this time include:
- Eye Protection for all on Cedar at all times. Please disinfect when leaving the unit.
- On-unit activities for Cedar residents only
- twice daily symptom screening for residents
- Prompt isolation of any symptomatic residents
- Staff Cohorting where possible
- Social distancing where possible
- Resident hand hygiene before meals and snacks and whenever possible
- Enhanced Environmental Cleaning on Cedar and in shared spaces in the home

Are you someone with a pet with current vaccination status and willing to sign up as a volunteer?
Then, we are looking for you!
We require the animal's current vaccination status, which is kept on file in the admin office, and we would need you to fill out the volunteer paperwork to become a registered volunteer. You can come and go on your own time, or we can set you up with an activity aide and your visit can become a program.
Volunteer Chaplain: We are also looking for a volunteer chaplain. If you know of anyone that might be interested, please have them reach out to Kim Gibbs at ext. 4841

We have staff, family members, and residents participate if they would like. Please be aware that when you see our staff lining the hallways that this is something that is about to take place. If you do not want this for your loved one, you just need to communicate this with us at the time.
Memorial Boards: we now have memorial boards in each home area that the activities team keep up to date with the residents that have passed.
Items being removed after a resident passes: Please ensure that items are removed from your loved ones’ room within 24hrs after their passing. We recognize that at times that are extenuating circumstances, and we can assist with this if needed.
Quality Improvement: team continues to focus on areas for quality improvement related to palliative care, and end-of-life processes.

We have a few areas to work on related to succession planning, wound care analysis, and the ready availability of current emergency information.
Our team will develop a quality improvement plan to be submitted in the fall to address the areas of opportunity for improvement.

The Muskoka and Area Ontario Healthcare Teams (MAOHT) is seeking community members to participate on the Patient Family Caregiver Partner Advisory Committee (PFCPAC) to help co-design a new model of health system integration. With Muskoka’s long-standing history of community engagement, this Advisory Committee is a natural step in empowering the community to be embedded in improving the patient/client, family, and caregiver experience within our local health system.
The Committee will consist of 8-10 members who live within, or are seasonal residents in, the Muskoka, East Parry Sound and Almaguin Area and who reflect the diverse population, which will strive to include representation from: the mental health and addictions community, Indigenous Nations, the Francophone community, survivors of gender-based violence, LGBTQ2+ community, and /or people with lived experience with dementia, chronic disease, palliative care, persons with disabilities, visible minorities. Membership will evolve over time to reflect the changes in MAOHT priorities and as we learn and grow.
We are looking for committee members who:
- have lived experience with the health care system;
- are willing to share their insights and ideas;
- will provide advice that will help inform health system changes and improve care delivery.
Interested individuals are asked to complete an Expression of Interest application by Friday, July 14, 2023.
