    The Oak home area remains in Respiratory Outbreak at this time. Currently, there are two (2) residents Isolated with symptoms such as sore throat, nasal congestion and runny nose. No General Visitors at this time; only Essential Caregivers to a maximum of two (2) at a time. Thank you for your patience as we work through this most recent outbreak.

    The following infection control measures have been implement:

    • Masking and wearing of eye protection on Oak at all times
    • twice daily respiratory symptom screening on Oak
    • Immediate isolation of any residents with new symptom onset
    • Cohorting of staff when possible
    • Activities- Small group activities on Oak; cohorting of other units where possible
    • Twice daily high touch surface cleaning on Oak
    • Increased hand hygiene and PPE audits on unit
    • Limit of 2 essential caregivers at a time on the affected unit.

    The Spruce courtyard is getting its final touches which will include one more crane lift on Wednesday September 6th, 2023. As we finish the Spruce home area, we are now moving on to the Cedar courtyard. The crane lift will happen on the same day. During this time, we will need to have residents out of their rooms in the back hallway as well as no access to other rooms in that area. There will be signage in place and staff monitoring the area during this time. See below for more information.


    When: Wednesday September 6, 2023

    Time frame: 10am to 3pm (approx.) Spruce 10:00am - 2:00pm; Cedar/Birch 2:00pm - 3:00pm

    Rooms affected: Spruce Home Area 309-321; plus the spa rooms and the activity room

    Cedar Home Area 211- 221; plus the spa rooms the activity room

    Birch Home Area 711- 721; plus the spa rooms the activity room

    Week 1 – Overview & Responsive Behaviours

    A presentation that provides general knowledge and awareness of a variety of related dementias, communication tips as well as the services and programs offered at your local Alzheimer Society.

    A presentation that provides knowledge about brain changes related to Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Also including knowledge on responsive behaviours, possible triggers and strategies.

    Week 2 – Brain & Meaningful Activities/Visits

    A presentation that provides knowledge about brain changes related to Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

    This education session goes over meaningful activities/visits and how care partners/family members/friends can make visits more successful. It also touches on how people living with dementia feel a sense of purpose in their days, when engaging in various activities.

    Week 3 – Care Partner Appreciation Night

    This session explores the care partner and the stressors they may face while caring for someone living with dementia. It will also discuss how care partners can take care of themselves and ensure they aren’t experiencing a burnout.

    Week 4 – Ambiguous Loss & Grief

    The issue of loss and grief is one of the most significant underlying issues that care partners experience when supporting people living with dementia. This workshop is designed to help care partners identify and work through the losses and grieving that occurs in different ways at all stages in the dementia caregiving journey.

    The project started on Monday, August 28th, 2023 and will continue for approx. a week, you may hear and see construction happening in the Spruce courtyard.

    We have completed two crane lift into the courtyard and need to complete another one. Therefore, there will be a period of time on Friday September 1, 2023 when we will need to have residents out of their rooms in the back hallway as well as no access to other rooms in that area.
